Educator for UiU Education Center – Horsebakken Department

UiU Education Center has a vacant pedagogue position in Track E.

UiU Education Center, Horsebakken department and Bystævneparken department is Copenhagen Municipality's education center for young people in 10th grade and young people in STU. The 10th grade offering is for young people with extensive difficulties. The young can after their 10th grade continue in the three-year youth education for young people with special needs. The young are in the age group from 15-25 years. All the young have a developmental disorder and are at a low cognitive functioning level.

UiU has in the school year 2026-2027 156 young people in education distributed across two sites, and the associated club has 65 members. We are a total of 130 employees. The vacant position is at the Horsebakken department. The young at Horsebakken are divided into five tracks with a total of 11 staff teams attached.

The education has its starting point in an appreciative approach, with focus on what each student is good at. Overall we strive that the students develop into becoming as independent and socially competent as possible, so they get maximum opportunity to influence their future life. They must, among other things, learn to relate to their daily life, to navigate social contexts and to make real choices. In addition, the emphasis in the education is on the concrete, practical and functional.

We are looking for a staff member who is trained as a pedagogue. The position is in our Track E for young people with autism or issues related to this area. These students are particularly dependent on a manageable and sheltered environment as well as a consistent approach. The nature of the students' challenges changes according to daily form, they become easily frustrated and can have outwardly directed behavior.

Some of the students have a limited receptive and expressive language and often have to be met at a nonverbal level. In addition to spoken language we use, among other things, alternative communication forms such as photo, boardmaker, PODD, iPad and smartboards. The bodily has also a large importance, therefore we also have special focus on bodily developing activities.

Some students may in addition to their developmental delay and autism have special personal needs including help with eating and toilet visits/diaper changes.

As a staff member you must be very clear in your demeanor and communication, you must rest in yourself and be able to handle sometimes special demeanor.

You will be part of a house consisting of eight students, a pedagogical assistant and three instructors (teacher and educators). Track E is divided into three houses/teams. As a teacher you will be responsible for a number of contact students with corresponding parent cooperation and documentation.

To create the continuity and stability the youths in the track need, there is a close collaboration between the school and club part of UiU. To optimize this collaboration it is very important that you as an employee see the benefit of close cooperation with several professional groups. Only by having an open, curious and creative approach to these youths do we ensure an optimal offering for the individual student.

We expect that you

• are professionally well-founded
• can collaborate with both students, parents, colleagues and management
• can work analytically, observationally, methodically and systematically
• have experience working with people with autism.

The students are in education daily between 08:30 and 13:30 on 200 school days. As a rule, the working hours are between 08:00 and 16:00. We expect you to participate in meeting activities as the other staff. During the year there are occasional evening events.

About UiU Horsebakken

We are located at Horsebakken 19, 2400 Copenhagen NV. Uddannelsescenter UiU is one unified organization under Copenhagen Municipality, our daily life is distributed across two sites: Horsebakken and Bystævneparken, at both places we offer STU and 10th grade. This position is at Horsebakken.

With us the focus is on creating safe frameworks, where each young person can develop academically, personally and socially in an environment characterized by respect, interdisciplinary collaboration and high specialist educational professionalism. The school is located in green surroundings close to Utterslev Mose and has good facilities inviting both learning, movement and community.

Terms of employment

The position is full-time and the salary will be according to the applicable collective agreement. We want you to start on 1 January 2027. The work plan is agreed with the team and department head. We operate on an annual norm. The workplace is Uddannelsescenter UiU, Horsebakken 19, 2400 København NV. There is a three-month probation period when employed by Copenhagen Municipality.
