About the job

Are you passionate about high professional standards, intensive nursing, and a specialty where you make a difference for the smallest patients and their families every day?

Then we have an exciting opportunity for you.

We are seeking nurses for permanent positions with start on 1 January 2027 or by agreement.

The positions are initially 37 hours per week, but we are flexible regarding hours and we will find the solution that best fits you and the department's needs.

An exciting expansion of the neonatal area

The regional council has decided to prioritise the neonatal area in the forthcoming budget agreement. This means that we will, in time, have the opportunity to expand our intensive capacity to 8 neonatal intensive beds, and therefore we will continually recruit new nurses to our team.

It is a large and important investment in the entire neonatal area at OUH and in the future treatment of the youngest and most vulnerable patients. The expansion will occur gradually, and the 8 intensive beds should be established in the 2nd half of 2029.

Now the big and exciting work begins to prepare the expansion. It also means that over the coming years we will continuously need more skilled nurses who want to be part of the journey and contribute to developing both our professionalism, workflows and culture.

When you become part of H5, you are therefore not just part of a department – you become part of an exciting development of the neonatal area.

At Intensive Neonatal H5 we are looking for new colleagues who want to specialise in intensive nursing for premature and critically ill newborns.

Whether you come with experience from neonatal, intensive or paediatric nursing – or simply want to learn a new specialty – we offer thorough training and a strong professional community.

H5 is today an intensive neonatal department with seven beds. We treat extremely premature babies, critically ill newborns, and children with abdominal surgical conditions.

We are about 50 dedicated nurses who together create a strong professional environment characterised by knowledge sharing, development and collaboration. With us, newly qualified and very experienced colleagues work side by side, and we help each other develop – every day.

With the coming expansion we are also facing an exciting development process, where we together will shape the future H5.

We collaborate closely with doctors and other professionals and work from a family-centred approach, where the parents are an active part of the care. Our practice is inspired by NIDCAP principles, and we focus on both the child’s development and the family’s well-being.

The work entails high emotional demands. Therefore we prioritise a work environment with care, openness and room for one another.

A safe start – and good development opportunities

We know that intensive neonatal nursing takes time to learn.

Therefore we offer a structured eight-week introduction programme, tailored to your experience and competencies.

You will become part of a safe and professionally strong learning environment, where you receive close sparring, supervision and support from experienced colleagues. We have a training nurse with special responsibility for ensuring a good introduction and supporting your professional development throughout the whole training period.

You are introduced to the specialty through teaching, themed days and clinical training, where theory and practice go hand in hand. After about three months you complete the department's respiratory course, where you gain competencies in respiratory treatment.

After about two years of experience you will have the opportunity to become part of the department's transport team and participate in the transport of critically ill newborns across the region.

With the upcoming expansion you also have the opportunity to be involved from the very beginning and to influence the development of a department in growth.

We expect that in the coming years there will be more opportunities for both professional development and new colleagues, as the new intensive beds are established.

Work life with flexibility

You have great influence over your work schedule through HosInfo, where we together strive to create the best possible balance between the department's needs and your wishes.

It is important that you are prepared for a high-acuity intensive department with nursing staff required at all times of the day. This means that evening, night and weekend shifts form a significant part of the work, and that flexibility regarding working hours is a prerequisite for working with us.

We work either

  • 8-hour shifts with work every other weekend, or
  • 12-hour shifts with work every 3rd weekend.

We are looking for you if you

  • are a licensed nurse
  • preferably have experience from intensive, neonatal or paediatric nursing, but this is not a requirement
  • want to specialise in intensive neonatal nursing
  • thrive in both acute situations and longer patient journeys
  • want to combine high-tech intensive treatment with a presence and family-centred care
  • are curious, engaged and motivated to learn new things
  • work responsibly and are aware of your own competencies
  • value interdisciplinary collaboration and actively contribute to good cooperation with colleagues across disciplines and our closest partner, H6
  • have an interest in advanced equipment and are confident in medication calculation

Have we sparked your interest?

If you would like to become part of a dedicated team with high professionalism, strong collegiality and good development opportunities, we would very much like to hear from you.

If you want to help shape the development of the neonatal area at OUH and put your expertise into play, this is a very exciting time to become part of H5.
