About the job

Are you interested in joining an ambitious college of specialists working to establish a leading academy for emergency medicine?

Emergency Department

Emergency medicine is still a newly established specialty in Esbjerg. Since 2023 we have been working on establishing an acute medicine concept that shall eliminate all non-clinically justified waiting times for the acute patient, and ensure that only the patients who need it are handed over to the hospital's other specialties. The aim is to give all health care staff in the hospital the opportunity to work with exactly the patients you are trained to handle.

Emergency medicine is the broad front-line specialty that shall give the approximately 70% of acute patients who only need acute medical hands the treatment offer they just need in the shortest possible time. The 30% who require the other specialties shall be stabilized, evaluated, and transferred to the relevant specialty as quickly as possible.

We have established Mobile Emergency Reception, MAM, which provides acute medical treatment for patients who need it but can be treated at home, with an acute medical offer. MAM is staffed by a doctor and a nurse who, in collaboration with AMK, go out to the patients, rather than bringing them in.

We have a productive and competent research unit, which regularly publishes and contributes to the department's patient-centered development

We receive around 48,000 patients per year.

Your functions in the Emergency Department

As a specialist in emergency medicine, your core task with the patients, together with our introductory and main training physicians. You teach in the morning based on Tintinalli's ”Emergency Medicine” or according to your own special competency area.

You participate in the education of medical students and other professional groups.

You learn to lead the hospital's tactical readiness.

If you do not already master standardized ultrasound examinations, you will be trained in them until you themselves are able to certify other doctors.

You participate in the specialist meetings and contribute to the professional leadership of the emergency department.

You are trained to operate the Mobile Emergency Reception.

You learn the role of front-line physician who manages forward triage for prehospital, interacts with local health services and general practitioners, and supports hospital triage.
