About the job

We are seeking a professionally strong specialist in clinical pharmacology who has a knack for collaboration and wishes to contribute to safe, rational, and cost-conscious use of medicines across the hospital's departments. The position is located at the Hospital Pharmacy at Esbjerg and Grindsted Hospital (EGS) with commencement on March 1, 2027.

The specialty of clinical pharmacology is anchored in the Region of Southern Denmark at Odense University Hospital (OUH) in the Department of Pharmacology. Several of the specialists work regularly at other hospitals in the region as part of their duties.

The position at EGS is established on the same basis and includes a fixed external function at OUH Pharmacology of approximately 2.5 days per week. Thus, you obtain your employment and organizational anchoring at EGS while also becoming part of the clinical pharmacology specialist physician community at OUH. The position thus provides an opportunity to influence the drug area locally at EGS and contribute to the specialty’s joint OUH, regional and national tasks.

The position is full-time with an average of 37 hours per week. Working hours are generally 8:00–15:24, and there is no evening, night, or weekend work.

About the position At EGS you will play a central role in cross-cutting work with rational pharmacotherapy, drug economics, and implementation. You will work closely with the hospital’s chief physician in clinical pharmacology, the hospital pharmacy’s pharmacists, the clinical departments, and hospital management.

The tasks range from clinically pharmacological advisory work and concrete everyday clinical issues to cross-cutting efforts within medication use, implementation, economics, and sustainability.

During your external function at OUH Pharmacology you will join the department’s group of specialists and participate in its clinical, regional, and other specialty tasks. The exact portfolio of tasks is described in the job description for specialists in Pharmacology at OUH, which is attached to the job advertisement.

Organizational affiliation and management

You are employed at the Hospital Pharmacy at EGS. The daily professional leadership is provided by the hospital’s chief physician in clinical pharmacology, while personnel management is handled by the hospital pharmacist.

About the Hospital Pharmacy The Hospital Pharmacy at EGS serves the clinical departments with purchasing and sale of medicines, drug information, on-site preparation of chemotherapeutics in the laboratory, quality assurance tasks, medication service, automated dose dispensing, and side-dispensing to inpatients. You will become colleagues with 4 pharmacists, 15 pharmaconomists, and 2 service assistants.

Your tasks From day one you will be part of the Hospital Pharmacy’s interdisciplinary environment and will work closely with pharmacists, pharmaconomists, and the hospital’s chief physician in clinical pharmacology. You will obtain a cross-cutting role with contact to the clinical departments, hospital management, and the clinical pharmacology environment in the Region of Southern Denmark.

Your primary tasks will be

  • promote safe, rational, and cost-conscious use of medicines at EGS through clinically pharmacological advisory services, analysis of drug consumption, and professional sparring with the clinical departments
  • contribute to the implementation and follow-up of the Medicines Council’s recommendations and treatment guidelines as well as other initiatives in the pharmacology field
  • participate in local and regional drug-related fora and, depending on interest and competencies, contribute to national tasks, professional committees, and casework
  • contribute to the development of the pharmacology field in step with the health reform and the increased collaboration across hospitals, general practice, and the close healthcare system
  • help develop work with sustainable medicines, including increasing knowledge about the climate footprint of medicines and translate that into concrete actions in clinical practice
  • contribute to a strong clinical pharmacology educational environment at EGS through teaching, supervision, and guidance of residents in training.

Tasks are carried out in close cooperation with colleagues at EGS and in Pharmacology at OUH. The portfolio of tasks may evolve over time and be adapted to the hospital’s needs and your professional interests and competencies.

Teaching and research

Teaching and professional development are natural parts of the position. You contribute to pre- and post-graduate teaching, including the medical education in Esbjerg, as well as to teaching and continuing education of the hospital staff in the pharmacology area.

Research and quality development based on clinical everyday practice are an integral part of the function. The hospital has an affiliated professor in clinical pharmacology, and there are good opportunities to engage in and develop research collaborations locally and across the region, including in pharmacogenetics and personalized medicine.

Qualifications Education

You are a specialist in clinical pharmacology and are eager to use your expertise broadly, from advising individual patients to cross-cutting tasks within rational drug use, implementation, and development of the pharmacology field.

A PhD degree and experience with clinical research are an advantage but not a prerequisite.

Experience and competencies

We emphasize that you

  • have broad clinical experience and understanding of medication management across sectors
  • are interested in and preferably have experience with regional and national issues in the pharmacology field, including the Medicines Council’s work and evaluation of individual cases
  • have an interest in drug economics and in using data for analysis and follow-up of drug consumption
  • can translate clinical pharmacological knowledge and data into advisory services, decision support, and concrete improvements in clinical practice
  • have experience with or an interest in teaching medical students and other health professionals as well as supervising doctors in training
  • thrive in interdisciplinary collaboration and can build relationships across disciplines, departments, and organizational levels.

Knowledge of Region of Southern Denmark’s drug organization and experience with relevant data and analysis tools, including TARGIT, is an advantage but not a prerequisite.

Personal qualities

We value that you are professionally engaged, independent, and initiative-taking, and have a structured approach to your tasks. You have an eye for both the individual clinical issue and the larger contexts in the pharmacology area.

You communicate clearly and constructively, both in writing and verbally, and thrive in a role with many collaboration interfaces. You are able to bring your professional knowledge into play in cooperation with different professional groups and management levels and actively contribute to good professional communities, both locally at EGS and in the clinical pharmacology environment at OUH.

We offer

  • a self-directed and development-oriented position with great influence on how work is organized and strong opportunities to shape the pharmacology area at EGS
  • a role close to clinical practice with strong cross-disciplinary collaboration with the Hospital Pharmacy staff, the clinical departments, and hospital management
  • opportunities to work with the pharmacology area from individual clinical problems to cross-cutting and strategic efforts within rational pharmacotherapy, drug economics, implementation, and sustainability
  • a fixed attachment to Pharmacology at OUH, where you become part of a larger clinical pharmacology specialist physician community with opportunities for professional sparring, collaboration, and participation in regional and national tasks
  • good opportunities for teaching, professional development, and research, as well as the possibility of academic affiliation with the Institute for Regional Health Research at the University of Southern Denmark.
