About the job

Would you like to be part of the team in our special education offering for students with disorders within the autism spectrum? Are you a trained educator or pedagogical assistant with special education experience? Are you a professional team player who, together with your colleagues, finds the best solutions for the pupils? And would you be part of a school with lovely students, skilled colleagues and wonderful surroundings? Then read on! Perhaps it is you we need!

At Peter Willemoesskolen we are seeking a skilled educator or pedagogical assistant with special education experience.

This is a 37-hour-per-week position with start date January 1, 2027.

Who are we Peter Willemoesskolen is a public school for grades 0-9 located in the town of Assens – close to the water and a fantastic natural setting. The school has approximately 220 pupils and 45 staff. With us we value diversity and inclusivity. As the first of its kind in Assens Municipality, we are certified as a UNICEF Rights Respecting School, and we have a newly established special education department for pupils with disorders within the autism spectrum. Students are referred to the provision by Assens Municipality.

We focus on developing and strengthening the school's collaborative culture, and you will be involved in that development. We have coordinators, mentors, teachers and educators employed, who every day work to strengthen the students' well-being and learning.

About the job We are seeking a committed and academically strong educator or pedagogical assistant, who primarily will be part of the team around our youngest autism classes. You will also join the team around our SFO-after-school club for the autism children.

One of your tasks will be to support the children in their play relationships based on their individual prerequisites, so that all children have the opportunity to participate in communities. It is important to us that the students experience being able to mirror themselves in peers; for example on the playground or in the shared areas for our other pupils.

In the same way, it is important to us that the staff feel part of the large community within the staff group, and we value good pedagogue- and teacher-collaboration, where we share responsibility for the children. With us you will experience that the school has good cooperation with parents and the school board.

Who are you We expect that you

  • are a trained educator or pedagogical assistant with special education experience – ideally from the autism field
  • want to continually educate yourself regarding autism pedagogy
  • are curious and proactive about the latest knowledge in the autism field
  • will be assigned to the autism department's youngest students, which may include tasks around holiday care
  • are skilled at forming positive relationships with both students and parents
  • are a team player who sees the value in working closely with colleagues
  • are engaged and passionate about applying your professional expertise for the benefit of students' learning and development
  • have a positive and energetic approach to the job and are happy to go the extra mile to succeed
  • are reflective, autonomous and proactive
  • are keen to collaborate in a large team

In addition, we expect that you have a driving licence for a regular car, as we have a minibus available that can be used for outings.

What can we offer you If we are so fortunate as to have you choose us, we can offer you

  • the opportunity to shape the development of our autism department
  • skilled, curious and engaged colleagues
  • ongoing training in autism pedagogy
  • a workplace with room to grow and good development opportunities
  • a focused emphasis on making our pupils as capable as they can be
  • a positive collaboration with parents, the school board and the local community

Salary and terms of employment Salary and terms of employment are in accordance with the applicable collective agreement and based on local salary setting rules.

Please note that references as well as criminal and child protection checks will be obtained before any possible employment.
