About the job

Would you like to help develop the future of geriatric services – close to the patients and in a strong professional community?

Do you specialize in geriatrics and want to work somewhere where your professional expertise makes a clear difference? At Bornholms Hospital we are seeking a specialist in geriatrics who wants to help develop our geriatric function and create coherent pathways for a population with a high average age. You will become part of a team of two geriatricians and dedicated nursing staff and therapists.

Here you will have the opportunity for clinical immersion, professional development and close interdisciplinary collaboration – in a daily life where we know each other and work together as one team.

Who are we?

Bornholms Hospital is the region's smallest acute hospital. All medical specialties are gathered in one common department, which provides particularly good opportunities for:

  • close collaboration across specialties
  • short communication lines
  • broad clinical experience and shared responsibility

We have a strong working community and a culture characterized by helpfulness, engagement and professional curiosity.

The position

You will become an important part of our geriatric team, and you will have an important role in both the operation and further development of the area together with our current chief physician of geriatrics. You will also join our night-coverage team.

Your main tasks will include

  • Assessment and treatment of ambulatory and hospitalized geriatric patients, primarily at main functional level
  • Active participation in the ongoing development of the geriatric function, including establishment and further development of dedicated geriatric beds
  • Co-responsibility for creating targeted and holistic pathways for a Bornholm population with a high median age and often complex comorbidity
  • Varied tasks with outpatient clinic, ward rounds and on-call duties, providing a varied and professionally broad daily life
  • Supervision and guidance of our training doctors, especially those affiliated with our geriatric function.

Collaboration and professional network

You will not be alone. We have a close and formal collaboration with Bispebjerg and Frederiksberg Hospital, which provides:

  • Professional sparring with experienced geriatric colleagues
  • Opportunity for knowledge sharing and joint development
  • Access to a strong professional backing

In addition, we have agreements with on-call consultants from Rigshospitalet and Bispebjerg, so you always have the option to confer in complex situations.

Education, quality and work environment

We place great emphasis on ensuring you are well prepared for both the geriatric task and on-call duty:

  • Thorough introduction and accompanying shifts
  • Stay in the pediatric emergency department
  • Courses in cardiac arrest management and treatment of critically ill children

You will also have

  • An important role in quality development within geriatrics
  • Opportunity to influence workflows and patient pathways
  • A mentoring role where you contribute to both professional and social wellbeing
  • Participation in two daily interdisciplinary conferences

The job in short

  • Specialist in geriatrics
  • Permanent position, 37 hours per week including 1 weekly on-call
  • Starting 1 March 2027 or earlier
  • Possibility of flexible work

Who are you?

We imagine that you

  • Are a specialist in geriatrics
  • Are motivated to work with complex, elderly patients
  • Want to help develop a growing geriatric function
  • Thrive in a smaller hospital with close collaboration
  • Engage in the training of our younger doctors
  • Contribute actively to a good and safe working environment

What do we offer?

  • Cheap rental accommodation close to the hospital for up to 12 months
  • Active staff association with social events and exercise
  • A daily life close to beach, forest and Bornholm nature
  • A meaningful job with high professional quality, influence and balance

Salary and employment conditions follow the agreement for Junior Doctors.
