About the job
At Odense University Hospital we work purposefully to ensure that innovation not only remains at the level of good ideas, but is translated into solutions that create concrete value for patients, clinicians and the hospital. Therefore we are part of the national BETA.HEALTH innovations platform, supported by Novo Nordisk Foundation.
BETA.HEALTH develops new or improves existing treatments and clinical solutions for the benefit of the patients, and supports entrepreneurial clinicians from clinical environments. For this role we are seeking a BETA.PARTNER with strong competencies in innovation and project development – an advisor and sparring partner who can challenge, facilitate and connect projects across the hospital.
You will have the opportunity to work in one of the country’s most ambitious innovation environments at a hospital, where you as BETA.PARTNER help identify clinical needs, mature projects and ensure that they move in the right direction – from early ideas to implementation-ready solutions.
Responsibilities and tasks
The role of BETA.PARTNER is not to drive the actual innovation projects – that responsibility lies with the clinical teams – but to function as an advisor and facilitator through the accelerator process. Your task is to ensure that the projects have a clear clinical need, a realistic level of ambition and continuous progress towards clinical testing and implementation.
The work in the innovation unit at OUH takes place in an interdisciplinary collaboration with the hospital’s clinical departments, educational institutions and companies both nationally and internationally. You must be able to match the health professionals’ and patients’ needs with innovative solutions by involving relevant actors e.g. universities, other hospitals and private companies.
Your main tasks
As part of the BETA.TEAM you will, among other things
- Advise and facilitate clinical innovation teams through the entire BETA.HEALTH process – from the first dialogues and screening to kick-off, accelerator phase, graduation and evaluation
- Challenge and focus the projects: sharpen problem understanding and clinical need, qualify the solution and uncover critical risks and next steps
- Contribute to sourcing and scouting of new projects in the clinic – e.g. via morning conferences, research environments, management and professional forums – and assess which projects fit BETA.HEALTH’s scope
- Participate in screening and Due Diligence of applications together with the other BETA.PARTNERS, with particular focus on clinical effect, risk, quality and maturity
- Navigate the healthcare system’s organizational, technical and regulatory complexity and help the projects find their way – including involving TTO, legal resources and other specialists where relevant
- Connect projects to the right people and environments and thereby help build innovation competencies and culture in the healthcare system.
You work independently and outwardly, but never alone: you are part of a strong professional team locally and a national community of BETA.PARTNERS, where we share methods, knowledge and experiences across the hospitals.
Our expectations of you
We would like to see an application from you if you
- Have a relevant academic education at master’s level – e.g. clinical, technical, or social sciences
- Have solid experience with innovation and project development – preferably in complex processes with multiple stakeholders
- Have an understanding of daily clinical life and how new solutions fit with workflows, professionalism and organization in a hospital
- Are curious, trust-building and good at collaborating with very different professional groups
- Thrives in the role of a “critical friend” who can both support and challenge – even when strong professional disciplines are at the table
- Work in a structured way, can keep overview of several parallel projects and execute tasks efficiently and on time
- Have strong communication skills, both written and oral, in Danish and English
In addition, it is an advantage if you
- Know innovation processes and have concrete experience with technology innovation – e.g. concept development, validation, maturation and implementation preparation
- Have experience with clinical innovation projects – e.g. as project manager, clinical innovator, entrepreneur or by taking an idea from need to solution
- Can navigate independently in a complex and sometimes unpredictable project landscape and both think strategically and take practical care of facilitation, advisory and written proposals
- Have familiarity with the Danish innovation ecosystem, including interaction with TTO, universities, companies and foundations
As a person, you must be proactive, independent and thrive with a large daily contact surface. You must be skilled at collaborating with different professional groups and easily communicate with partners both internally and externally in the organization. You are not afraid to take on the project leadership role to ensure that projects have progress.
We hope that the description of the position has sparked your interest, and we look forward to reading your application.
Who are we?
You will become part of the BETA.TEAM, which is anchored in the innovation unit at Odense University Hospital. The Innovation Unit and the three centers CIMT (Centre for Innovative Medical Technology), CAI-X (Centre for Clinical AI) and CCR (Centre for Clinical Robotics) support OUH in becoming ready for the challenges of the future through local, regional, national and international projects on new technology.
Employees in the Innovation Unit work closely with all clinical departments at OUH, but also with all faculties at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU), other educational institutions, municipalities, private companies, etc. The Innovation Unit secretariat supports OUH’s Innovation Council, administers OUH’s Innovation Fund and is responsible for developing and implementing OUH’s innovation strategy.
The national BETA.HEALTH organization has colleagues at university hospitals across the country. BETA.HEALTH is an innovation platform across Denmark’s five university hospitals. With support from Novo Nordisk Foundation, we have strong ambitions to deliver solutions to the health system’s biggest challenges: workforce pressure, more elderly and chronically ill patients, and the need for treatment closer to the patient.
The Innovation Unit and BETA.TEAMET are located within the overarching function area Innovation, Research & MTV, which is part of Clinical Development at OUH. You can read more about Clinical Development here.
