About the job

Are you a nurse who is passionate about leadership, developing staff, and at the same time wishes to ensure that acutely ill patients receive the highest quality of care and treatment? Do you like an unpredictable daily routine?

Do you see the benefits of working closely with other leaders?

Are you good at collaborative relationships across teams?

If yes, then this position at the Shared Emergency Reception (FAM) could be for you!

FAM is seeking a chief nurse (oversygeplejerske) from January 1, 2027 or by agreement.

FAM is a department that often runs at a high pace, a department with competent and curious staff, and a department where there has been joint leadership of nursing staff since 2018. The nursing staff report to one of the chief nurses, and the tasks are distributed among the four chief nurses according to interest and preferences. Joint leadership means close relation to your leadership colleagues and the opportunity for frequent sparring.

Since 2021 there have been four chief nurses at FAM. This means that leadership is close to each employee to ensure high well-being and constant focus on collaborative culture and the working environment. We want nursing care to be delivered at a high level to patients, and this is ensured, among other things, by near-clinic leadership. Therefore the chief nurses in care spend on average one day per week in the department, including every 8th weekend.

We are looking for an engaged and authentic leader who has an inclusive and open leadership style and enjoys “doing leadership.”

A leader who thrives with a structured task distribution, as this is a prerequisite for parallel leadership.

A leader who has the will, desire and ability to exercise leadership in loyal cooperation with the rest of the department's leadership.

A leader who is innovative and can use the improvement method as the framework for development.

A leader who knows and can apply conflict resolution methods.

A leader who has impact and can communicate clear messages.

A leader who is good at dialogue and building networks and relationships across professional groups and departments.

A leader who likes working in the clinic.

South Jutland's Hospital's (SHS) vision is “From hospital to health care – we lead and do it together in the close proximity.”

Strategy 2030 describes how we go the same way, and we do this by practicing good leadership at SHS, because good leadership is essential to achieving our vision. With good leadership we create good frameworks and a clear direction for our staff. We are a value-based organization, and good leadership is guiding for leadership practice. We reflect on and translate good leadership into action. This happens, among other things, through dialogue and feedback with the staff.

SHS has several initiatives for department leadership, such as cross-disciplinary meetings four times a year.

About FAM

FAM consists of

Floor 1 with trauma bays, trauma reception, intake rooms and observation rooms.

Here all pre-triaged patients with injuries, 112 patients and trauma patients from all of South Jutland are received. The entrance for acute psychiatric patients is also located here. The on-call doctor is integrated and located on Floor 1, and a bridging function has been established. There are injury clinics in Sønderborg and Tønder, both staffed with treating nurses.

Floor 2 with 42 beds. Here, primarily doctor-referred patients are received for acute ambulatory assessment and possibly admission for up to 48 hours within the specialties of cardiology, acute medicine, internal medicine, gynecology, surgery, neurology and orthopedic surgery.

The organization in FAM is team-based with a common triage that distributes patients into teams on each floor to staff with the right competencies. Primary nurses and SOSA triage, receive and have independent nursing responsibility for the patient. FAM also has an acute exploration unit. The focus is on research into acute patients throughout the entire patient journey. The research crosses sectors and specialties. The department's staff are involved in this research in various ways.

The nursing staff consists of about 100 nurses and social- and health-assistants. They work in two of the four teams into which the department is organized.

There is a shift planner employed in the department. There is a focus on “good shift planning,” and “Altiplan” has been implemented so that staff are responsible for their shift preferences. Staff work either every 2nd or 3rd weekend, according to preference. The department is a training facility for students, SOSA students and ambulance rescuers.

The chief nurses handle the direct leadership of the nursing staff and ensure in close collaboration the daily operation and development as well as implementation of initiatives in the clinic. A prioritized area is a good working environment with high well-being and focus on high emotional demands.

The chief nurses, the health administrative leader and the department management are the leadership team in FAM – one leadership that prioritizes leading together, practicing clinic-near leadership, ensuring professional development and training. In addition, cross-disciplinary collaboration at the hospital is prioritized for the benefit of the patient.

We are therefore seeking a chief nurse with the following qualifications

  • Experience with leading staff and preferably experience from the acute area.
  • Preferably a formal leadership education or currently pursuing one.
  • Good at relationships at all levels and across professional groups.
  • Good communicator, with impact and ongoing follow-up on initiatives.
  • Can motivate staff and help ensure a good working environment in the department.
  • Has ambitions as a leader who will secure development of patient pathways and staff in the department.
  • Preferably clinical acute experience.
