About the job

Do you want to help develop acute medicine at one of Denmark's largest emergency hospitals?

We are seeking a specialist in acute medicine for a consultant position in the Acute Department at North Zealand Hospital.

As a consultant with us you will be part of a strong and growing acute medical professional community with high clinical activity, dedicated colleagues and significant potential to influence the development of both the department and the acute medical specialty.

We are also facing an exciting development. Acute medicine is taking an increasingly central role in the organization of acute patient pathways, and ahead of the move to New North Zealand Hospital we are working purposefully to develop a modern acute department with strong clinical processes, high presence of specialists and coherent patient pathways.

Acute medicine is also an active part of developing citizen-centered health services in the Plan Area North. In the coming years we will help develop new acute services closer to citizens and create better continuity between hospital, municipal services and the pre-hospital effort. As part of this development, The Running Acute Nursing Service in the Acute Department is anchored, which provides new possibilities to bring acute medical assessment, diagnostics and treatment closer to the patient’s own home while strengthening the link between citizen-centered services and the hospital's acute functions.

About the Acute Department

The Acute Department is the hospital's common entry point for acutely ill patients and is among the largest emergency departments in the country.

Every day we receive, evaluate and treat around 170 acute medical patients as well as about 100 patients in the emergency department .

The Acute Department handles the initial assessment and treatment of a wide and complex acute patient population. A large part of the patients are fully treated and discharged directly from the department, while others are stabilized and referred to the hospital's other specialties.

We continuously work to develop patient flow, clinical workflows and the organization of acute care. The specialists play a central role in clinical decision-making and in ensuring early diagnostics, treatment and a plan for the patient’s further course.

Our ambition is to deliver high-quality acute care while creating attractive framework conditions for education, development and working life.

As a consultant with us

You will have a central clinical and professional role in the department and become part of the specialist group around the development of acute medicine.

You will receive, among other things

  • a central role in a strong acute medical consultant community
  • an opportunity to influence the professional and organizational development of acute medicine at North Zealand Hospital
  • an opportunity to contribute to the development of citizen-centered acute health services in Plan Area North

  • opportunity to develop your own professional areas of responsibility within areas such as education, research, quality, simulation, innovation or operations
  • an opportunity to contribute to the development of the future acute department at Nyt North Zealand Hospital.

We do not expect all consultants to have the same profile. We want a group of specialists with different competencies and interests, who together can elevate clinical work, education, research and development.

  • is a specialist in acute medicine
  • has high clinical professional competence and thrives with the broad acute medical patient
  • can maintain overview and make decisions in a daily environment with high patient flow and complex clinical problems

We have a large educational environment with doctors at several training levels, and as a consultant you are expected to actively contribute to supervision, competence development and learning in daily clinical work.

We prioritize a learning environment with high professional quality, close sparring between consultants and trainee doctors, and ongoing development of our educational activities.

As a consultant you also have the opportunity to develop your own professional profile and take on a particular area of responsibility depending on your interests and competencies.

Work environment and culture

We place emphasis on order, professionalism, collaboration and curiosity .

Acute medicine is a team specialty. Therefore, it is essential for us to help each other, take shared responsibility and collaborate constructively – both within the department and with the hospital's other specialties.

We want a workplace with high professional ambitions, where there is also room for collegiality, humor and a sustainable working life.

On-call duties

The position includes participation in the department's on-call capacity.

Currently the on-call presence is from 08:00 to 23:00 with subsequent on-call duties from home.

The department is actively working towards establishing 24-hour staffed acute medical consultant presence as part of the continued development of acute medicine at North Zealand Hospital.
