About the job

Do you want to strengthen foster families' opportunities to create well-being and development for children and adolescents with difficult life experiences? At Familieplejen København we are seeking a psychologist who can supervise and support foster families' work with children and young people who need special support.

Children and young people in foster care may have experiences of neglect, rupture and trauma, which affect their development, relationships and emotional life. This can make it difficult to understand the child's reactions and to find the right ways to meet the child in daily life. Our task is to provide the foster families with the professional support they need.

As a psychologist you should contribute with your knowledge of children's development, attachment and trauma and translate it into concrete support for the foster families. You must be able to create reflection on the interaction between foster parents and the child and help the foster families to find new ways of acting in a often complex daily life.

Your tasks

  • provide psychological supervision to foster families focusing on the child's needs, reactions and developmental opportunities
  • plan and carry out family and trauma interventions that support the foster family9s work with the child
  • provide psychologically based crisis intervention
  • translate psychological knowledge into concrete tools that foster parents can use in everyday life
  • collaborate with family foster consultants and other professionals to provide coherent support to the child and the foster family
  • contribute to the professional development of our interventions and common practice.

The work requires you to build a trusting relationship with the foster families while challenging their understandings and ways of acting when necessary. You must be able to hold on to the child's perspective and help the foster parents understand what lies behind it.

Who are you?

You are a trained psychologist, and you have an interest in or experience with working with children and youth in exposed positions and the foster families who take care of them.

We imagine that you

  • have knowledge of trauma
  • have experience with supervision, family work or other interventions where you support adults in their caregiving task
  • are able to translate complex psychological issues into understandable and usable courses of action
  • can build trust while being professionally clear
  • are flexible and contribute to the work community

You may be an experienced psychologist who already has solid experience with supervision and trauma understanding, or you may be earlier in your career with a strong professional foundation and motivation to develop within the field. The essential thing is your psychological professionalism, your ability to foster collaboration and your interest in making a concrete difference for children in foster care.

What do we offer?

You will become part of Familieplejen København, where we share a common important task: to create the best possible conditions for children and young people in foster care.

We are a multidisciplinary organization with engaged colleagues who work closely together to support foster families. We prioritise professional sparring, knowledge sharing and development of our practice.

With us you get

  • a varied position with supervision and psychology-related interventions
  • opportunity to use and develop your professional skills within attachment, trauma and relational work
  • independence in planning your tasks and close collaboration with colleagues
  • opportunity to influence the development of our psychological support to foster families.

We work from a neuroaffective and mentalization-based approach and are focused on translating professional knowledge into practice that makes sense for foster families and creates better conditions for the children.

Salary and terms of employment

The position is 37 hours per week with start as soon as possible or 1 January 2027. Salary and terms of employment follow the applicable collective agreement and within the framework of local pay setting. In connection with the recruitment we will obtain child and criminal background checks as well as references.

The work includes visits to foster families, and you must be prepared to travel in connection with the tasks. We expect you to have a driver's license and a car available.
