About the job

Start date December 1, 2026 or as soon as possible · Autism Center Southern Denmark's respite care for children with autism in Odense

Trained pedagogues are sought for Bihuset Aflastning – you who are curious about what the child is trying to tell, and who can create predictability in a changing daily life

Do you want to work with children and young people with autism, where no two workdays are necessarily the same?

In Bihuset Aflastning we have 12 places for around 30 different children and youths who come to us on rotation. This means that you meet children with different needs, personalities, communication forms and ways of experiencing the world.

Your own workday must therefore be flexible – while you must be able to create a safe, recognizable and predictable daily routine for the individual child.

For us, it is an important pedagogical task to try to understand what lies behind the child's reactions. When something becomes difficult, we do not only ask “What does the child do?” , but also “What does it tell us?”

What may seem like a small change to us can be perceived very differently by a child with autism. Therefore we work with clear frameworks, structure, recognizability, visual support, preparation for changes and attention to demands, pace and sensory input.

We believe that behavior makes sense – even when we cannot immediately see the meaning.

We employ you for two things: collaboration and professionalism

Collaboration: With many different children, it is crucial that we share our knowledge and help each other. You should be able to give and receive sparring, share observations and be curious about your colleagues' perspectives. We do not expect you always have the answer – but that you want to explore the question together with others.

Professionalism: You must be able to translate your pedagogical knowledge into practice and reflect on your own approach. We are concerned with what happens in the interaction between the child, the surroundings and the adults around the child – and what we can do differently ourselves.

Professionalism must be felt in the encounter with the child.

We invest in your professionalism

You do not need to know it all when you start. Instead, you must want to learn.

We offer

  • 5 introductory days with thorough introduction to Bihuset and our practice
  • Mentor in the start-up
  • Autism Center's own basic education in autism
  • Opportunity for further education in sensory integration
  • Competence development in pedagogical massage
  • Supervision
  • Ongoing professional sparring and reflection

We aim to create an environment where you can be skilled and become even more skilled.

Who are you?

We are looking for you who

  • are a trained pedagogue
  • thrive meeting different children and different needs
  • can maintain calm and overview in a changing daily life
  • are curious about what lies behind the child's behavior
  • can reflect on your own practice and actively engage in professional sparring
  • have a desire to develop within autism pedagogy
  • can be flexible without becoming unclear
  • can be structured without becoming rigid

Maybe it is you we are looking for, if… you like that your own workday can be variable while you work to make the child’s daily life more predictable.

If you can meet different children with openness and curiosity, be calm when the child is not – and if you can say:

“I don’t know yet – but I want to become wiser.”

Then we would love to hear from you.
